PURPLE GLOW — Creating Depth with Values

In this immersive full-day punch workshop, you’ll discover how value (the lightness and darkness of colour) is the secret ingredient that transforms a simple pattern into something that glows. Working with a 12″ × 12″ mandala design, you’ll learn to punch the composition using a palette of different values that give the illusion of dimension and luminosity. You’ll leave with a solid start to your piece and a plan to finish it confidently at home.

A kit ($110 paid directly to the teacher) will include the pattern on monk’s cloth and all wool yarn needed to complete the design.

Students will need to come with a Gripper strip frame and cover (14″ × 14″ or 18″ × 18″), #13 or #14 Oxford Punch Needle, small, pointed scissors, and a permanent marker.  Pen and paper for notes could be useful.

Robin Whitford is an Advanced Oxford Certified Instructor with over eight years of experience teaching both rug hooking and Oxford Punch Needle workshops across beginner through advanced skill levels. Based in Eastern Ontario, Robin teaches in-person and online, reaching students near and far who are ready to pick up a hook or needle for the first time — or take their skills to the next level. Robin brings warmth, humour, and a genuine love of the craft to every class and loves nothing more than watching students surprise themselves with what they’re capable of.
