Sue Perry

Teacher Since 2018
Where do you teach? Anywhere! It's wonderful going to different guilds and meeting other rug hookers. I'm also very comfortable teaching on Zoom.
What do you teach? Beginners, wide shading (#5 cut) using a variety of types of dyed wool (dip dyes, painted, swatches etc.), Celtic, stained glass. I particularly enjoy working with groups to provide classes in what they are interested in, and collaboratively developing classes based on interests and experience levels.

I enjoy working with individual groups and developing courses that meet their interests.
What is your favourite thing to teach? What I enjoy the most is teaching itself! I was an educator for 36 years and helping someone learn a new concept or apply a technique is very gratifying.
How far are you willing to travel to do a workshop? I love to travel and meet other rug hookers. It's lovely to see what different areas offer and what they're passionate about.
What do you like best about teaching? The moment of beaming excitement when someone hooks something that brings them joy - whether it's a beginner that hooks their first few loops, or an experienced person who looks at what they've just hooked and sees that it's exactly what they imagined it would be.
What is your favourite tip to share with your students? Rug hooking is one of the most forgiving fibre arts applications. What's done can be easily undone and what isn't done can easily be done.
