Margaret Miller

Teacher Since 2005, started hooking in 1998.
Where do you teach? Private and group lessons at my home studio in Richmond Hill, Ontario: Spring, Summer and Fall or at home in Bonita Springs, Fl. during the Winter months. I have taught beginner courses in Bala Ontario, for the Art League in Bonita Springs Florida and 10-Cut Flowers, with 36" dip dyes for the Newmarket Rug Hookers. As well, I design, colour plan, and dye for custom orders.
What do you teach? Available to teach beginners to advanced students. Courses in: Colour Planning, Crewel, Scrolls, Wide cut, Wide Cut Flowers, Fine Cut Floral Shading, Open Classes, Dyeing, Finishing, Family Memory Rugs, Design, Hooking Techniques Beginner to Advanced.
What is your favourite thing to teach? Every phase of rug hooking interests me and I would be happy to consider any proposal for teaching. Flowers, wide and fine cut, is where I have concentrated a lot of my study efforts. Designing family memory rugs with students is, however, top of the list. I particularly enjoy them because they are so personal and hold so many memories.
How far are you willing to travel to do a workshop? I am willing to consider travel to anywhere in Canada or the US for a full week workshop. I am open to billeting with the groups hostess, to help offset costs. In Ontario or Florida I am willing to travel for 2 or 3-day weekend courses approx 2 to 3 hours from my home, expenses and mileage in addition to course fees. Fees on request.
What do you like best about teaching? What I like best about teaching: Sharing with others the passion for rug hooking. Sharing the "Aha!" moments, where the student moves forward in technique and creativity. Sharing other opinions, where both the students and instructor have other opportunities to teach and learn.
What is your favourite tip to share with your students? From your heart to your hand, the inner artist is revealed. You might start rug hooking as a craft, but you will end up as an artist.
