Mosaics are found in art and architecture all over the world. They are a pattern produced by arranging small colored pieces of hard material, such as stone, tile, or glass. Discover how to create a 12-inch x 12 inch “soft” mosaic with wool worms.
In this workshop, you will learn how to colour sort your worms and plan your mosaic design. You will also learn the Indian embroidery technique of Shisha to embellish your mosaic with a mirror. As well, you will learn how to create your own “sparkle” wool to create a luminescent effect. In addition to regular hooking tools, students will need a 2–4-inch round craft mirror, a spool of luminescent thread, a 20-inch x 20-inch piece of foundation fabric (rug warp or primitive linen), and a collection of hooking “worms” in lots of colours.
Kit available on request- $15 + shipping (includes:1 spool luminescent thread, 1 doll needle, 2 craft mirrors (3”, 2”), 20″ x 20” piece of serged primitive linen)
*Students provide their “worms” and 1/4-yard neutral coloured wool for “grout.”
