OPEN CLASS
with Linda Powell
The open class will provide you with an opportunity to hear about techniques used in a variety of subject matters – subject to what the students are bringing to class. Plan to bring an unfinished project that has been tucked away in a closet or bring a new pattern to begin another rug hooking adventure. Any cut is welcome. In addition to discussions on students’ patterns, colour and technique choices, we will also talk about other rug hooking subject matters. This class invites questions and sharing of information and is suitable for all levels of rug hookers.
Linda began rug hooking in 1988 after being introduced to the art form by her mother-in-law. She joined local guilds in Ohio, took private lessons, and attended weekend workshops before deciding to attend the Southern McGown Workshop. An accredited McGown teacher since 2000, Linda is experienced in all cuts and styles. She teaches regular classes from her home based studio, running her business under the name "Village Rim Rug Hooking". She also teaches day workshops for guilds in Ohio and private lessons upon request. Linda is a member of the OHCG, ATHA, the McGown Guild and three additional local and state guilds. Linda has received ribbons for her work at three McGown exhibits.

Wendie hooked her first rug in 2003, after falling in love with a moose pattern. Since that time she has hooked more than 100 projects, large and small; in virtually every style, from wide-cut primitives to fine-cut Orientals. She enjoys the creative process of designing her own patterns for rugs, accessories and wearables. Wendie is a Certified Teacher with the Ontario Hooking Craft Guild and has taught at a number of rug hooking schools around Ontario as well as giving one-day and weekend workshops on a number of different topics.
Wendie and her husband retired to their log home in Parry Sound in 2010. She is proud to have a group of eager students who come for weekly classes in her beautiful studio there.
REJUVENATE YOUR PASSION WITH ALTERNATIVE FIBRES (Based on the 2013 Annual Theme)
with Patti Armstrong
Rejuvenate your passion for rug hooking by trying something new. In this workshop we will be exploring the use of alternative fibres. “Everything old is new again”, will be evident as you hook old clothing into beautiful pieces of art. We won’t just be limited to clothing as we will also explore other fibres such as plastic, paper and many, many more. We will learn how to reduce, reuse and recycle. We will become more environmentally conscious too as we challenge our creative selves. Should you choose to design your own pattern you can enter your piece into the theme category for the 2013 Annual in Kingston, Ontario. The theme for the 2013 Annual will be “Reunite, Recreate and Rejuvenate”. So come on out and rejuvenate your passion for hooking, by trying something new!
After a life long interest in Art and Pioneer crafts, Patti began rug hooking in 2001. It didn’t take long for her to realize that she had an allergy to wool. Therefore, she started to use alternative fibres for her rugs mostly she hooked with nylon stockings. Hooking became a passion for Patti and it wasn’t long before she began to win awards for her work. Patti has won the Rowan award, a fine shading award, and an award for wide cut. She also won third place for one of her pieces in “A Celebration of Hand Hook Rugs”. Patti has been featured in Rug Hooking Magazine where she was recognized her for her portrait work. Recently Patti graduated from the TTEC course and gained her OHCG Teacher’s Certificate. She is proud of this accomplishment and is eager and excited about future opportunities to teach!
